WORKSHOP ON INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) HELD AT ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION Dept. VVP ENGINEERING COLLEGE DATE 14TH TO 16TH OF JULY 2017 by PROF. JIGNESH PATOLIYA
DAY 1 (Following topics were covered)
- BASIC INFORMATION ON IoT
IoT is also known as internet of things through which we can control the appliance and other heavy machine by remotely.
- WHAT IS IoT AND ITS DEFINATION
IoT is the only environment which includes three layers in which perception, network and application layers are included.
- WHERE THE INTERNET OF THE THINGS IS USED?
Remotely controlling the appliance.
- TYPES OF BOARDs USED IN IoT MEMORY SPECIFIED AND IT’S SEGREGATION.
- WHAT IS ARDUINO?
- PROGRAMING OF ARDUINO WITH DIFFERENT EXAMPLES.
By using sketch and its inbuilt examples Included.
- WHAT IS NODE Microcontroller?
Node MCU is using the ESP8266 and by its help the SoC is made which is known as NODE MCU.
- PROGRAMMING OF NODE MCU
Programming is done with the help of sketch of Arduino by simply selecting the module in option the format is same as the arduino is worked.
- HOW TO COMMUNICATE SERIALLY
This is done by using the serial library in arduino IDE Serial.begin (Baud rate);
- HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH WiFi MODULE.
Which is same as the NODE MCU.
- SIMULATION ON PROTUES.
By taking all the components and placing it together in protues.
- KNOWLEDGE ON BAUD RATES.
Different baud rates for serial communication for different application as per the modules which are used for the same.
DAY 2 (Following topics were covered)
- KNOWLEDGE ON DIFFERENT SENSORS.
Sensors and its classification based on Nature.
Main two types 1) Digital Sensors 2) Analog Sensors.
The sensors which includes only two state in terms of its output than this type of sensors can be classified into Digital in Nature.
Were the output which is not in fixed manner it varies in particular range than that all the sensors are analog in nature
- PROGRAMMING ON NODE MCU FOR SENSOR (ANALOG)
This practical is done by using the AVR board using the potentiometer of its and the LED for other purpose.
- PRACTICAL WORKING WITH NODE MCU.
Programming with sketch and other software like mosquito.
Checking the interconnection within the network offline and online.
- NoT (NETWORK OF THINGS)
NoT is the network which can be used for low range and limited communication like LAN connection the appliance which are in intra network that can be controlled by this type of connection.
- IoT (INTERNET OF THINGS)
This type of network can control the things from anywhere, anytime and at anyplace.
This can be done by connection of internet which is compulsion for this type of connection.
- KNOWLEDGE ON RASPBERRY Pi.
This is the board which has very different property than arduino which includes case of Memory, Speed, SoC.
While in case of arduino we doesn’t have any facility for make it IoT directly.
- PRACTICAL WITH MOSQUITTO.
It is software which helps to communicate the NODE MCU as to make the application through it and controlling of appliance by UI. Likewise SCADA.
- KNOWLEDGE ON MOTT PROTOCOL.
MQTT is very light protocol which means no more latency and which directly indicates that it consumes very low bandwidth.
With 93.05 % result Electronics and communication department stood 1st Rank in Entire Zone and 3rdRank in GTU in the result of 6th semester. Sparkling stars who glitters in GTU are mentioned below.
Parth Sopariya Secure 1st Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.37, Darshit Gosaliya Secure 2nd Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.36, Panikar Anjali Secure 4th Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.23, Sagar Dixit Secure 5th Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.22, Bhatt Ravi Secure 7th Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.09, Rupareliya Hima Secure 8th Rank in Entire GTU with CPI 9.08. Analysis wise 8 students obtained 9 above SPI and 47 students obtained 8 above SPI.

Chemical Department of VVP Engineering College, Rajkot is proud of the 6th semester students for bringing a sparkling result of 94.2%.
With the wonderful result, we rank 2nd in entire GTU, out of 25 colleges under GTU, a matter of immense pride for us.
Ankit Sojitra ranks 1st in the entire GTU (CGPA – wise) with a CGPA of 10.
Payal Kachhadia ranks 3rd in entire GTU with a CGPA of 9.95.
With an overall CPI of 9.33, Ankit ranks 8th in GTU.
And with this excellent result, Ankit Sojitra stands to be a strong contender of GOLD MEDAL in Chemical Engineering, hence maintaining the tradition since 2015 by Yuti Trivedi and Kartik Tank and giving us a golden chance to score a HATRICK in GOLD MEDALS!!
The Department of Chemical Engineering keeps the promise of giving the best to their students when it comes to knowledge and practical aspects of engineering, and hence, once again we come up with a very important topic delivered by Mr. Dhaval Desai, from Essar Oil Ltd, Jamnagar, on “Thermal Cracking” on 10th of July, 2017.
This expert lecture was conducted under the MoU between Essar and Chemical Dept of VVP Engg College. Mr. Dhaval Desai is associated with EOL since last 9 years and he is currently heading the Process Monitoring function of Refinery ISBL, Utilities and Power plant. He graduated Chemical Engineering from LD Engineering College, Ahmedabad in 1991 and has more than 25 years of professional experience in Petrochemicals and Refinery units.
We are thankful to Mr. Rajendra Kakkad, Deputy General Manager at Essar Oil Ltd, Jamnagar for bringing together such informative expert sessions. Mr. Kakkad is associated with EOL since last 9 years and has more than 21 years of Industrial experience. Presently, since last three years, he is looking after the Technical Training dept. at Essar.
We are thankful to the management of VVP for granting us permission for the program, and the Department is much thankful to Dr. Jayesh Deshkar, Principal of VVP Engg College, for motivating us to conduct such sessions.
The Department pays its gratitude to Dr. Piyush Vanzara for taking initiatives to such essentially useful programs for the sake of students and staff, and to the entire staff of the department.
