A REPORT ON THE PROGRAMME ON GENDER CHAMPIONS PHASE 1 ON 12-9-15 AND PHASE 2 ON 14-9-15

With reference to the GTU circular on GTU/UGC/RI-GC/2015/8586 regarding creating gender sensitivity and making gender champions in the institute to ensure the dignity and respect of the female students, VVP Engineering College has started presentations of the students in 3 phases on the topics mentioned below to create gender sensitivity among the students and thereby ensuring their knowledge, reading and readiness for the subjects.

After the presentations are over, the willing students with considerable knowledge and skills will be declared the gender champions who will be assigned to conduct activities in this regard in the college and will become torch-bearer in the field of gender sensitivity.

Under the guidance from the Principal, Dr. Sachin Parikh and the convener of the women cell of the college Dr. Jignasha Mehta, the members of the women cell has initiated the activities, with the assistance from the faculties of English Dr. Urja Mankad and Dr. Darshita Dave. The college has decided the following 14 topics on which the students of the college will make the presentation.

  1. Male literacy viz-a-via female literacy
  2. Gender wise health issues.
  3. Gender based economic conditions.
  4. Gender based domestic violence
  5. Sex-selective abortion
  6. Labour participation and gender based wages
  7. Political reforms for gender equality
  8. Social reforms for gender equality
  9. Reasons for gender equality
  10. Inequality in credit in success
  11. Inequality in opportunities
  12. Provisions for equality in religions
  13. Provisions for equality in the constitution in India
  14. Legal reforms in gender equality

Phase 1: In phase 1, held on 12th September, 2015, 15 students participated and made their presentations igniting brain-storming sessions on the gender sensitivity.

Phase-2

The phase-2 presentation of the students was held on 14th September, 2015. After 2 phases, the following students have volunteered themselves for becoming gender champions and ready to create awareness about gender equality and arranging events for the same.
