A Happy moment for the department to see students shining with outstanding achievements in their GTU winter 2019 is examinations. As chemical department tops among 24 chemical engineering departments of GTU, the faculty members and students celebrate each moment of their day with joy.

Heartiest congratulations to Jay Jobanputra and Nikhil Bhundiya who stood 3rd and 8th respectively in the GTU Merit list, branchwise.

May there be more such proud achievements each each year!! Congratulations to the faculty members of institute and the students for their wonderful achievement.

Gold Medals for Chemical Engineering department

January 12, 2018.
The day of double celebrations for our department as we rejoice the gold medals secured by Kartik Tank, 2016 batch topper, GTU gold medallist and engineer at Reliance Industries Ltd., Jamnagar.

And Miss Kinjal Rokad, joined recently at our department as a faculty, secured gold medal in Masters of Engineering.

We congratulate both of them and wish them a very bright future ahead!


Expert Lecture held by Dr. Sushil Koregaonkar and Mr. Ajinkya Patwardhan of Chemical Dept., at Essar Oil, Vadinar.

Under the faculty exchange program between Chemical Engineering department and Essar Oil Ltd, on 25th November, 2017 two expert lectures at Essar Oil, Vadinar were conducted by two experienced faculty members of the department, Dr. S.S. Korgaonkar and Mr. Ajinkya Patwardhan.

Their topics were as follows:
1. Dr. Sushil Korgaokar (Sr. Lecturer, Department of Chemical Engineering)
Topic: Fundamentals of Corrosion
– Classification of Corrosion
– Dry Corrosion (Oxidation, other gases and liquid corrosion)
– Wet Corrosion (Due to oxygen (acid/alkali medium), neutral conditions)
– Prevention of Corrosion

2. Mr. Ajinkya Patwardhan (Asst. Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering)
Topic: Advance Control Strategies
– Concept of controllers
– P, PI, PID controllers
– Control strategies (Cascade, Ratio, and adaptive control etc.,)
– Feedforward – Feedbackward controller

The lectures were very informative and well- received by the engineers at Essar.

The department is thankful to Mr. Rajesh Kakkad, Deputy Manager , Essar Oil, Vadinar for giving us the opportunity to deliver informative lectures and hence interact with the young engineers at Essar. Also, we are thankful for their wonderful hospitality at the industry. We pay our gratitude to the management of V.V.P. Engineering college, to provide assistance at various levels.

Expert talk by Dr. K. U. Mistry (ex- chairman, GPCB)

An expert talk on Environmental Safety was organized for the faculty members of Chemical, Civil and Biotechnology department on the 28th of August, 2017, by Dr. K. U. Mistry, the former chairman of Gujarat Pollution Control Board. Dr. Mistry has a phenomenal knowledge and experience in the field of Industrial safety and environment and has served as the Chairman of GPCB, for two terms.

The lecture was extremely informative and we pay our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mistry for sparing his valuable time for our institute.

We are thankful to our Principal Dr. Jayesh V. Deshkar to motivate us for conducting such academic sessions.

We are also very thankful to all the staff and management of the institute to make such expert lectures possible at various levels.

Sparkling Result of the 6th Semester Students of Chemical Engineering Department

Chemical Department of VVP Engineering College, Rajkot is proud of the 6th semester students for bringing a sparkling result of 94.2%.

With the wonderful result, we rank 2nd in entire GTU, out of 25 colleges under GTU, a matter of immense pride for us.

Ankit Sojitra ranks 1st in the entire GTU (CGPA – wise) with a CGPA of 10.

Payal Kachhadia ranks 3rd in entire GTU with a CGPA of 9.95.

With an overall CPI of 9.33, Ankit ranks 8th in GTU.

And with this excellent result, Ankit Sojitra stands to be a strong contender of GOLD MEDAL in Chemical Engineering, hence maintaining the tradition since 2015 by Yuti Trivedi and Kartik Tank and giving us a golden chance to score a HATRICK in GOLD MEDALS!!

Expert Lecture Mr. Dhaval Desai, from Essar Oil Ltd, Jamnagar, on “Thermal Cracking” on 10th of July, 2017

The Department of Chemical Engineering keeps the promise of giving the best to their students when it comes to knowledge and practical aspects of engineering, and hence, once again we come up with a very important topic delivered by Mr. Dhaval Desai, from Essar Oil Ltd, Jamnagar, on “Thermal Cracking” on 10th of July, 2017.

This expert lecture was conducted under the MoU between Essar and Chemical Dept of VVP Engg College. Mr. Dhaval Desai is associated with EOL since last 9 years and he is currently heading the Process Monitoring function of Refinery ISBL, Utilities and Power plant. He graduated Chemical Engineering from LD Engineering College, Ahmedabad in 1991 and has more than 25 years of professional experience in Petrochemicals and Refinery units.

We are thankful to Mr. Rajendra Kakkad, Deputy General Manager at Essar Oil Ltd, Jamnagar for bringing together such informative expert sessions. Mr. Kakkad is associated with EOL since last 9 years and has more than 21 years of Industrial experience. Presently, since last three years, he is looking after the Technical Training dept. at Essar.

We are thankful to the management of VVP for granting us permission for the program, and the Department is much thankful to Dr. Jayesh Deshkar, Principal of VVP Engg College, for motivating us to conduct such sessions.

The Department pays its gratitude to Dr. Piyush Vanzara for taking initiatives to such essentially useful programs for the sake of students and staff, and to the entire staff of the department.

Chemical Engineering Department carries Gold Medal in 2017

  • We are very pleased to inform that the students of final semester have proved their mettle by bringing together an excellent result, following the traditions of GOLDEN results of VVP- Chemical Engineering Department.
  • KARTIK TANK successfully bags a gold medal for himself and second year consecutively for the department.
  • Amongst 25 Chemical Engineering Colleges under GTU, Our department ranks 6th in the entire GTU and 1st in Saurashtra- Kachchh Zone (Zone-4).
  • Two students Kartik Tank (Rank-2) and Parth Vachhani (Rank-9) secured their positions in the TOP-10 students (Branch- wise, CPI- wise).
  • Overall result of the Department is 92.67%.
  • Congratulation to all the students who have followed the path drawn by the hard work of their teachers!

STUDENTS PROJECT FAIR by Chemical Engineering Department

Chemical Engineering Department of V.V.P. Engineering College, Rajkot organized Student Project Fair on 29th April 2017 as a part of the initiative taken by the GTU innovation council. In this event final year projects were on display. A total of 12 groups of final year students participated in this event. The students displayed posters explaining their project work. The project fair was organized by the Project Fair Organizing Team (PFOT) of pre-final year students under the able guidance of Dr. Piyush B. Vanzara, Associate Prof. and Head, Chemical Engineering Department.

A committee of experts constituting of Mr.Hiren Raval and Mr. Sunil Aghera from Managing Director of The Gres Ceramics, Morbi evaluated the projects. Alumni, parents and other citizens from Rajkot were also invited to visit the fair. The experts also named the best three projects out from the department. This project will be nominated for GIC i2i Awards 2017.

The project fair was a great success as it gave a good exposure to the students to the outside world. The students faced questions from the experts and persons from different levels of society, which gave new dimensions to the thought process of the students and proved a great value addition towards their improvement.
