NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY (131st Birthday of Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan)
Dr. Manmohan Singh, Former Prime Minister of India has declared 22nd December as the National Mathematics Day during 125th birth anniversary celebration of Srinivasa Ramanujan held at Madras University.
There are various programs and activities which are scheduled to be organized on this day. UGC has directed all the colleges and universities to organize different activities to commemorate the day.The aim of the program are to boost the student’s interest in the field of mathematics.
Applied Sciences & Humanities Department of V. V. P. Engineering College celebrated 131st birth anniversary of Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan on 22.12.2018 by organizing a quiz competition of mathematics between 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the presence of faculties of Mathematics . There were a total of 131 participants from various departments.
The program started at 8a.m. and common instructions regarding the rules of the Quiz were given to the students. Then after the students were divided in two groups and sent to two different venues to participate in the first phase of the quiz.
The 1st phase consist of five rounds which were based on topics like series and sequence, blood relation questions, problems based on alphabets, problems related to figures, puzzles and Ramanujan’s magic squares. Each round had fixed time limit to answer questions for each team, which made this very exciting and interesting for all students. At the end of five rounds, six teams were selected to move forward to the next round for the final show down.
The finale was held at the P.D.C. auditotrium, there were six teams competing in it. This phase consists of three rounds which included different math aptitude questions and puzzles. The third round was a common Sudoku puzzle for all the six teams. The team which came up with the correct and fastest solution was declared winner.
The event ended by 10:05 AM, followed by declaration of the winner teams.
