Environmental Audit Laboratory, V.V.P. Engineering College, was started during the year 1998-99; as the Environment Audit Scheme was introduced by the Hon. High Court of Gujarat vide its orders dated 20-12-1996 and 13-03-1997. Since then laboratory and environment audit team of V.V.P Engineering College had been approved by Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) Gandhinagar as Schedule – I Environmental Auditor.
Presently, laboratory has two audit teams approved by GPCB – Gandhinagar, each team has four members two engineers and two scientists.
The scope of laboratory includes the visit to schedule-I listed industries, collection of ambient air, flue gas emission, water and wastewater sampling and subsequent analysis, followed by preparation of annual audit report – detailing all aspects of pollution monitoring, pollution load, control measures adopted and recommendations and suggestions for further improvement.
On an average, this laboratory performs environmental audit works of about 20 to 25 industries every year.
It would also be relevant to state that we have procured ISO/IEC 17025 Certification for Chemical Testing which is designed as per the requirements of Quality Council of India & National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
NABL accreditation in India is the procedure by which an accreditation body gives a formal recognition to a laboratory to perform a certain test on a certain product and parameter. In the recent times, the number of tests performed by laboratories has increased manifold.
The laboratory is equipped with highly sophisticated instruments/equipments which are regularly calibrated according to GPCB & NABL norms.
Laboratory is well equipped with required laboratory analytical equipments such as glass wares, pipettes, burettes etc. All the analytical reagents are prepared using Analytical Grade, Laboratory Grade, Imported Reagents / Chemical Grade Laboratory chemicals & Certified Reference Material (CRM’s). Sampling & Analysis register for reference and consideration of the competent authority and the esteemed client base is highly maintained.
The Laboratory strictly follows Standard Test Procedures prescribed under “Standard Operating Procedures” prescribed by CPCB and GPCB for carrying out analysis of air, water & wastewater etc. We also follow Standard Test Procedures prescribed under “Standard Method for the Examination of Water and Waste Water” prepared and published jointly by “American Public Health Association” – (A.P.H.A.), and relevant standards methods of Bureau of Indian Standards (B.I.S.) are also followed for the analysis. For Air Emission analysis the Laboratory follow “Methods of Air Sampling & Analysis” Published by relevant Standard Methods of Bureau of Indian Standards (B.I.S.).
Vision:
To achieve excellence in analysis of environmental air, water etc. samples by developing all round capabilities and effective quality management system, thereby assisting the regulatory bodies to formulate strategies for preventing and controlling pollution.
Mission:
To collect & analyze environmental air, water etc. samples from different industries and provide most reliable results to facilitate effective monitoring and implementation of pollution control strategies and legislations.
Policy:
Environmental Audit Laboratory, V. V. P. Engineering College is committed to:
V.V.P. Engineering College, testing laboratory seeks to close collaboration with the Client as well as with the Legal Authorities in an attempt to satisfy their demands and compliance to their requirements, improve the quality of testing services provided and assure the confidentiality of the data. Accordingly, Laboratory Management guarantees that all staff members have understood the importance of meeting the requirements of Clients as well as the legal and regulatory requirements.
- The Management of the V.V.P. Engineering College, testing laboratory is committed to assuring the quality of the laboratory test results by:
- caring on an ongoing basis, to ensure the necessary human and material resources
- maintaining a high level of staff scientific and technical competence
- using documented and validated test methods
- operating appropriate state of the art equipment
- implementing and maintaining an appropriate management quality system
- Quality management systems has been introduced and implemented in every aspect in accordance with the standard ISO/IEC 17025.
- Ensure all the members of our laboratory are conversant with the Quality documentation & shall implement the policies and procedures in their work.
- Continually review and improve our internal processes and management practices to ensure that our workings, policies and procedures are aligned with the Standard ISO/IEC 17025.
Objectives:
- To continually improve the effectiveness of the management system.
- To ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining delivery schedule and reliability of testing.
- To constantly motivate and improve human resources to perform their job efficiently and effectively through training.
Environmental Audit Scheme and Preparation & Data Collection for Environmental Audit Report
Environmental Audit Scheme was introduced in 1996 as per high court order. This scheme envisaged qualified technical professionals becoming a link between individual industries on one hand and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), other public authorities and associations of industries on the other. This scheme is being implemented by GPCB as per the directions of the Gujarat High Court. We have been recognized Schedule I Environmental Auditors right since the inception of the Environmental Audit Scheme, 2015. We have two teams approved by GPCB, each consisting of two engineers and two scientists.
Field Monitoring:
Air monitoring at Work Place, Ambient Qir Quality having parameters PM2.5 (Particulate matter having Particle size ≤ 2.5µ), PM10 (Particulate matter having particle size ≤ 10 µ), SOx (Oxides of Sulphur), NOx (Oxides of Nitrogen), NH3 (Ammonia) etc. Indoor Air Quality Monitoring, Noise Monitoring.
Monitoring of Flue & Process Gas Emission:
The purpose of Flue & Process Gas Emission monitoring is to extract sample from the stack or duct with isokinetic sampling which is representative of emissions from that stack or duct during a time period under a desired operation condition.
We also under take Physical measurements as well as determination of chemical parameters such as:
- Stack gas and ambient temperature
- Stack gas pressure
- Stack gas velocity & flow rate
- Particulate Matter
- Gases such as sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, chlorine, ammonia etc.
Water & Wastewater Sampling:
Water sampler is used for collection of water samples. It has the capacity of five litres. The water sampler is sent to the desired depth in the vertical position by clamping it to a rope of 4 to 6 mm diameter. The brass messenger is allowed to slide along the wire and strike the top of the push rod, which activates the closure of the sampler underwater. Thus the sample is collected.
Laboratory Services:
- Ambient Air Analysis
- Analysis of Flue Gas & Process Gas Emission
- Water Analysis:
- Waste water
- Ground water
- Surface water
- Drinking water
- Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), Gandhinagar approved Schedule I Environmental Auditor
- Certificate of National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL) (A constitute board of Quality Council of India)
